The number you used for activation is however never shown in its complete form anywhere in AVG – the last group of four characters is hidden. This for security reasons, to prevent an unauthorized person to use your license by writing it down from your AVG program.

How do I upgrade AVG with a new AVG license number?

  • Download the latest AVG installation file at avg.com/us-en/download(choose your edition and click on the link “Paid version.”)
  • Run the downloaded file and choose the add or remove components option.
  • Then, replace your current AVG License Number from the e-mail received after your upgrade was processed and paste it into the appropriate field during the installation.

How to retrieve AVG license Number?

Your AVG License Number has been emailed to you as you place your order at the AVG online shop.
If you have AVG already installed and wish to view your license key to make a backup copy of it, you can retrieve your AVG license number by following these steps:
  • Run AVG version 8.5
  • Double-click the License icon
  • Your AVG license number is listed in the License Component window. You can copy it to the clipboard by right-clicking it and selecting Copy license number
  • Store your AVG license number in a text file at a safe location.
